Keywords are key
Its important to make sure your website contains right combo of words that people type into search engines such as Google and Bing when looking for websites like yours. Using the right keywords on the right pages mean your website has a better chance of being found by the right people.
Task 1.1 – Explore the Google Keyword Tool
Write down a list of the top keywords you believe people are using to find businesses like yours. Keywords can be several words combined or terms you believe people use. For example, if you own a juice bar in Dallas, Texas, you’ll want to include “juice bar in Dallas, Texas” as one of the keyword you’ll aim to rank for.
A helpful way to come up with your initial list is to search a few keywords and scroll to the bottom page of the search results in Google and take a look at the “Searches related to…”
Next, signup for Google AdWords (now Google Ads). Once everything is all set up, navigate to the Keyword Tool and begin researching the terms people are using to find your business. You’re going to be amazed by all of the insight you uncover. Although you may find it valuable to do so, you do not have to run an ad to gain access to this feature.
Once you have compiled your list, export it and save it for the next task.
